Waterfall Tour in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan // Michigan Adventure Wedding Photographer
My husband and I were visiting some friends in Northern Michigan over our sixth anniversary. That’s right, six years! Woop woop! 🙌😀 Even though our favorite thing to do has now become one of our most common things to do—explore!—that’s what we did for our anniversary. We really love it.
We set out early in the morning with our friends’ dog that we were watching for the weekend as well as our not-quite-as-fluffy fluff-butt, Shiloh. We drove over the five mile long Mackinac Bridge into the UP and hit as many waterfalls as we could. (I LOVE waterfalls!)
It was a rainy day when we got up there, but for most of the day it was that nice, light rain that seems to enhance the colors. The rain, trees, and waterfalls reminded us of being back in Oregon and the PNW. Maybe most of the waterfalls weren’t quite as tall as Oregon’s, but they were still quite pretty and enjoyable.
Though we didn’t get to see too much of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, what we did see was SO pretty. The fog rolling in made it extra magical. But then the pouring rain started and it became a bit unbearable to continue, sadly. It was also the end of the day and we were pretty tired. So we only ran around to the closest sights then headed back out.
There are so many more waterfalls in the UP than the few we were able to see in that one day. We’d definitely love to go back and check out more of them. A heads up: not all of the waterfalls were dog friendly, so make sure you have a backup plan if you’re bringing them along. :)
Michigan’s UP is so pretty. I definitely recommend taking a trip there to explore. Its landscape seemed like a pretty rare one for the Midwest. That may just mean that if you live in the Midwest then it’s perfect for when you want to travel to see something like the PNW, but that’s not in the money and/or time budget. It’s still a bit of a hike up there, but definitely a beautiful must-see in my book. Warning, in the winter you can apparently get pretty snowed in up there, so be careful. 😉
